Turk Mountain (left) and Calf Mountain (right) from McCormick Gap Overlook @ MP 102.4 on Skyline Drive - Waynesboro, VA, USA
McCormick Gap on Skyline Drive is a "wind gap" created by flowing water. At an elevation of 2,455 feet, the now dry gap is also a trailhead for the Appalachian Trail and McCormick Gap Horse Trails. The overlook offers a good view of the Shenandoah Valley and Waynesboro. The McCormick name may honor the original landowner. The route of the Skyline Drive through this area was moved from the ridge line to the west side of the ridge to avoid bisecting Royal Orchard. Construction of this part of the parkway began in March 1936 and was opened to traffic in the fall of 1939.. Exposure: 1/500 sec at ƒ / 4.5, ISO 100, 0 EV. Lens: 14.0-24.0 mm f/2.8.
