Old Jail c. 1873 @ Historic Court Circle - Gloucester, VA, USA
The Gloucester Board of Supervisors decided to build a new jail after Federal troops burned the original during the American Civil War. The building was completed in 1873 and consisted of four rooms, each 16 x 16 feet in size. The building's walls are 18 inches thick. The county built two wings in the early 1900s as segregated bathrooms. They have been modernized and made handicapped accessible.
