Werowocomoco Gate - Gloucester County, VA, USA

This is Werowocomoco: a "place of leadership" in Algonquian. Behind this gate, Virginia's first people lived 400 years before the English arrived at Jamestown in 1607. Native Americans cleared the forest and built a 50-acre capitol of ~30 tribes in the "Tsenacommacah" area of Virginia's Tidewater. Chief Powhatan led the Powhatan Confederation from here. It was also where legend claims Pocahontas saved Captain John Smith's life. Exposure: 1/125 sec at ƒ / 8.0, ISO 100, -1 EV. Lens: 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8. Camera: NIKON D750.
