Cooks Hollow from Rockfish Valley Parking Overlook @ MP 1.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway - Lyndhurst, VA, USA
The Rockfish Valley Highway (SR 6/151) passes through Cooks Hollow. Ennis Mt is on the left. Before the dams on the James River were constructed, rockfish ran from the bays as far west as the valley –thus the name Rockfish Valley.
The Monacan Indians camped near creeks and small streams in the Rockfish Valley sometime before the 1700s. The first white settlers came to the Rockfish area before 1734 and to the Nellysford-Wintergreen vicinity before 1740. They were mostly of Scotch and Scotch-Irish origin. Present Route 151 closely follows "The Thoroughfare" trail cleared in the 1740s.
