Buda Castle c. 1769, 1966 @ Budapest, Hungary, EU
Built during medieval and expanded in the 1700s, Buda Castle was the last stronghold of the Germans and Hungarians during the Siege of Budapest between December 1944 and February 1945. Heavy fighting and Soviet artillery destroyed the castle. Reconstruction and modernization were complete in 1966. In the 1980s, the interior spaces were opened. The castle now serves as the home of Budapest History Museum, the Hungarian National Gallery, and the National Széchényi Library.
